Welcome to Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro is full of beautiful and charming places, and our route in 2023 could not be different. So, here we are going to go through it extolling some of the different tourist spots that are in places where our test passes.
Come on?
- Monumento aos Pracinhas : The National Monument to the Dead of the Second World War, or "Monumento aos Pracinhas", is very close to where we started and arrived on June 26. Built in 1960, the place houses the great monument, a mausoleum and museum that tell the story of Brazilian heroes who fought and lost their lives on the Italian battlefields.
- Rio’s South Zone Waterfront: Athletes leave at Marina da Glória at 5 am and head towards the iconic beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon, where they will enjoy the sunrise on the isolated seafront for national cycling.
- Jardim Botânico : We follow the direct route to go around the Jardim Botânico do Rio, founded in 1808 by D. João, it is famous for the exuberance of its plant collections, landscapes and longevity. It is also recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
- Tijuca Forest: Then, the ascent towards the "carioca alps" begins via Dona Castorina road, when we pass through the Tijuca Forest, a very rich environmental reserve, with several attractions and programs to be in the midst of nature. It is certainly one of the most challenging and beautiful moments of our race.
- Chinese View : The timed challenge of King and Queen of Strava Mountain begins in one of the most famous climbs for cycling in Rio. The challenge at the beginning is tough, but it eases up in the last 1.5 km to the top, when we reach the viewpoint of Vista Chinesa, one of the biggest postcards of the city. This is a great time to get off the bike, hydrate, eat, replace carbs and enjoy a little bit of the amazing view.
- Mesa do Imperador: This famous stop in Rio used to be used by nobles and bourgeois for country lunches and was always visited by D. Pedro II, on his walks through the forest. Over the years it has become an obligatory stop for visitors looking for another beautiful landscape in the city. Those who opted for the halfway route, make the return here and return along the same route.
- Mirante das Canoas: The athletes now enter one of the most winding sections of the race, up to the fork in the Gávea Pequena road, towards Casa do Prefeito and descend to the Mirante de Canoas. Beautiful stretch to observe Pedra da Gávea and place where there is a return to face the hard climb on this high-inclined concrete road.
- Rio Star: As we pass by Mesa do Imperador and go down the neutralized Dona Castorina road, we continue along the Orlas until finally crossing the Marina da Glória. The challenge goes on to the athletes of the long course, who continue through the APCC Porto Maravilha circuit to the bus station and return to Botafogo by the same route, closing the 1st, of two laps, before heading to the finish line. In this final stretch of the race, it is possible to see one of the coolest attractions in the wonderful city, the Yup Star, an 88-meter high Ferris wheel, 54 air-conditioned gondolas, which provides a unique view of our host city.
